Non-ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Novel and Robust Approach for Early Detection of Patients at Risk
نویسنده
چکیده
N on-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is lower on the severity spectrum of acute coronary syndromes than is myocardial infarction (MI), resulting from complete occlusion of a major coronary artery. As the name implies, it is a syndrome that does not exhibit the dramatic ST elevation observed in the standard 12-lead ECG in chest pain patients with confirmed acute MI. The important clinical significance of NSTEMI is that delay in diagnosis can lead to increased morbidity, risk of arrhythmia, and death. The article Clinical Utility of Ventricular Repolarization Dispersion for Real-Time Detection of Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Emergency Departments in this issue of the Journal by Al-Zaiti et al is a timely presentation of a new approach to quickly diagnose NSTEMI and significantly reduce the time to treatment in these patients. The marker, ventricular repolarization dispersion (VRD), incorporates much more information in the ECG than that provided by measuring elevation of the ST segment and, thus, heralds the emergence of more powerful and robust methods of assessing ECG morphology and dynamics than can be provided by classical interval and amplitude measurements.

Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI ) are common types of acute coronary syndrome which are associated with the risk factors of age, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Background & Objective: Patients with ischemic heart disease classified to two major groups: patients with stable angina and patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Previous studies showed that posterior segment of left ventricle is a silent segment on ECG, and routine 12 leads electrocardiogram (ECG) is not sensitive for evaluation of posterior infarction. This study designed for evaluati...

Abstract Background: In view of the prevalence of myocardial infarction and the importance of knowing the predictors of its morbidity and mortality, we conducted this study to determine if ST-segment resolution after streptokinase injection influences the prognosis in MI patients with ST segment elevation, (STEMI).. Materials and methods: In a cohort study done in Loghman hospital between 138...
متن کاملElectrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is not associated with increased in-hospital adverse events in patients experiencing first non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: A single center study
Background: There is conflicting data about prognostic implication of electrocardiographic (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with first non- ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). We aimed to examine the association of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on admission electrocardiogram with adverse outcomes in patients with NSTEMI. Methods: In the present study, ...
متن کاملThe effect of oxygen inhalation on cardiac biomarkers in patients presenting with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infraction: A randomized clinical trial
Background: It is assumed giving oxygen to patients with acute myocardial infraction may increase the oxygenation of the ischemic tissue; however, the usefulness of oxygen in these patients has become a challenging topic. Thus, the present study aimed to determine the effect of oxygen inhalation on cardiac biomarkers in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods: This randomized cli...
